Official commissioning of the revamped Lube Oil Blending Plant

On 17th November, the Executive Vice President, East & Central Africa and Chairman of the Board of TTotalEnergies Marketing Kenya, Mr. Jean-Philippe Torres today officially commissioned the recently revamped Lube Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) located in Shimanzi, Mombasa County. He was accompanied by other company officials among them the Managing Director, Mr Olagoke Aluko.

The Plant was built in 1952 and has undergone tremendous transformations over the years. The company continues to invest so as to bring on board latest technology which has enabled the facility to blend a range of synthetic lubricants as well as products that meets the stringent performance requirements of automotive & Industrial equipment manufacturers, specification defined by International lubricants institutes and meeting the expectations of customer locally and in the regional export countries.

The recent KES468M (3.9M€) upgrade to the facility includes state of the art additional filling & packaging line, automation of the blending process and increased storage space. This has resulted in increased production capacity from 27KT to 47KT annually.

In tandem with the upgrading of the plant, staff had to undergo specialized training in Europe and locally to equip them with the necessary skills required to effectively operate the specialized manufacturing equipment. There are over 120 staff directly employed to run the plant in different roles.

For environmental and quality management, plant is accredited with EMS ISO 14001:2015 and QMS ISO 9001:2015 certifications, respectively.

In the last several months, the plant has featured in the fight against Covid 19 pandemic by producing alcohol-based hand sanitizers in partnership with the Government of Kenya for free distribution to low income citizens.
